The yogas of participation

Mark teaches hatha yoga as participation in the union of opposites — the perfect intrinsic union of male and female that is all of life. There is no getting to it, because we are it. Rather than gymnastic, energetic, sexual, or any other kind of exaggeration, authentic yoga is simply participation in the given reality, allowing us to truly see and receive ourselves and one another.

Mark brings you the Yoga from the Great Tradition, as brought forth by the “teacher of the teachers,” Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, rather than any ‘style’ of Yoga. You will therefore be able to apply these principles to any style or level of Yoga you wish to practice or teach, to make all Yoga individualised, effective, enjoyable, and safe.

About Mark Whitwell

Mark travelled to India for the first time in 1970 and met known and unknown saints and sages in the search for useful teachings. In 1973, he started what a lifelong study and friendship would be with the ‘father of modern Yoga’ Tirumalai Krishnamacharya (1888-1989) and his son, T.K.V. Desikachar (1938-2016), from Chennai, India. Mark witnessed their great friendship and collaboration with J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986) and U.G. Krishnamurti (1918-2007), and dedicated his life to furthering the resulting communication in his own form in modern times.

Mark is committed to clarifying the essence of the teachings of Krishnamacharya so they are relevant and accessible to everyday people while retaining their potency, and to deconstructing disempowering hierarchies. He is also the founder of a non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing peace practices to troubled regions, and facilitates gatherings of friends around the world, helping people to connect with their breath and “stop looking, start living.”

He is editor of and contributor to Desikachar’s classic ‘The Heart of Yoga’, and is the author of the books ‘Yoga of Heart’, ‘The Promise’ and ‘God and Sex, now we got both’.

‘You are already truth.
You are already divinity.
Exactly as you are’

Why do we do teacher trainings rather than just workshops?

Some people are suspicious of yoga teacher trainings as mere moneymakers within yoga business and have legitimately rejected this model of selling packages of arbitrary information and calling it teacher training in order to double or triple the price.

This is a valid criticism, so
