When we perform rituals we use the power of intention, we practice full presence, and we connect to the world around us. Rituals help us to remember how blessed we are, how magical life is, and how important it is to slow down.
For thousands of years the end of October was marked as the division of the year between the lighter half (summer) and the darker half (winter). Winter was seen as a time of deep rest as the temperatures dropped, the animals went into hibernation, and the nights became longer.
It was at this time that the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain was celebrated. People would call on their ancestors at this time for protection and guidance as they prepared for the darker months.
Through movement, breath, meditation and ritual we will also prepare for the deep rest of Winter by releasing stress, going inwards, and slowing down.
